77th Northeast Conference on Avian Diseases
Cornell University - Ithaca, New York
June 15-17, 2005

In its 77th year, NECAD is probably the oldest conference on Avian Diseases in the United States.

NECAD originated when researchers working on what it was then known as white bacillary diarrhea (WBC) (pullorum disease) saw the need to meet annually to share their experiences on the epidemiology, diagnosis and control of WBC, In 1928 the Northeastern Conference of Laboratory Workers in Bacillary Diarrhea was created. As pullorum disease was controlled, the poultry industry flourished, and the need to prevent and control other poultry diseases became evident. In 1957 Northeastern Conference of Laboratory Workers in Bacillary Diarrhea changed its name to Northeastern Conference on Avian Diseases (NECAD).

NECAD offers the opportunity to avian disease researchers and graduate students to meet and present results of their research, and avian disease topics of general interest for the Northeast. NECAD provides the opportunity to present advances of research at a time when criticism from colleagues will be of benefit in guiding works in progress, and preparing the students for presentations at national and international forums.

NECAD is regularly attended by avian disease workers from the provinces of Prince Edward Island, Quebec and Ontario, and the states  of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware. Workers from other states often join the Conference.
